Discuss the role of social work as profession and the conception that cost remain the primary issue in
social welfare policy. Does this, in part, also explain some of the lower wages of social workers and
other human service professions? Have some professions “cost” themselves out as primary helpers in
child welfare, mental health and other areas of direct practice in social welfare?
